Working
with our partners, we are building a system of affordable housing that
addresses the prevention and care needs of people with HIV/AIDS.
For
people with HIV/AIDS, safe and affordable housing is a bridge toward a
more stable, independent, and healthy life. A longtime housing advocate,
AFC collaborates with housing agencies and advocates to provide rental
subsidies and permanent supportive housing to more than 630 low-income
people with HIV/AIDS and their family members. AFC Housing Director Arturo
Valdivia-Bendixen is a respected local and national advocate for the homeless.
Virgil Tolbert, executive director of the Christian Community Health Center,
is a leader in the Renaissance Care Network, which is one of AFC's principal
housing partnerships providing 41 housing units to low-income individuals
and families affected by HIV/AIDS on the far south side of Chicago.
