About AFC: Junior Board

Young adults are disporportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that as many as half of all new HIV infections in the U.S. occur among those less than 25 years in age. As a result, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) has formed a Junior Board to engage young adults in the fight against the epidemic.

Members of the Junior Board support AFC's overall mission and activities by acting as ambassadors in the fight against HIV/AIDS and by engaging other community members in their 20s and 30s to make a difference.

Why join the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s Junior Board?

  • Support an organization doing critical HIV/AIDS work
  • Play an active role in engaging other young people to support AFC’s grantmaking, advocacy, and prevention programs
  • Enhance your resumé with important community service while gaining a sense of philanthropy
  • Develop your leadership skills and your potential to join the AFC’s Board of Directors in the future
  • Learn more about AFC's vital work, grantmaking, advocacy, and the art of fundraising
  • Meet a wonderful group of people and have FUN

Junior Board members must:

  • Be 21 – 35 years old and display an extraordinary commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS
  • Act as ambassadors for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago in the community
  • Attend at least three Junior Board meetings and one AFC event annually
  • Pay annual membership dues of $40
  • Actively participate in one of the following committees:
    • Policy and Community Outreach Committee
    • Social and Planning Committee
