Rescue 2010: Illinois HIV/AIDS
Policy Priorities

It’s this simple: State operations cost $26 billion per year, but the state is projected to collect revenue totaling just $13 billion in the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2010. Unless lawmakers identify new revenue to close this colossal deficit, hundreds of people will lose life-saving HIV medications, thousands will be denied essential services, and tens of thousands will go without prevention services. This will undoubtedly result in more HIV and STD infections and more preventable deaths. We can ensure this crisis never comes to pass: here’s how.

State Healthcare Access Research Project (SHARP) Releases Report on Access to Care

A new research report produced by the State Health Access Research Project (SHARP) uncovers both successes and challenges in promoting access to care for people living with HIV/AIDS in Illinois. The Health Law and Policy Clinic of Harvard Law School and the Treatment Access Expansion Project reviewed Illinois health policy, met with stakeholders including Illinoisans living with HIV/AIDS, and invited comments from state officials. The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) will work to implement the report’s recommendations in 2010 and future years.

The goal of the project is to develop, nurture, and support statewide policy and advocacy leaders, to build stronger ties with stakeholders, increase involvement in HIV/AIDS activities, and to encourage ongoing communication with HIV/AIDS allies, elected officials, and the media.
