Marks 20 Years of
Service with Community Events
In
2005, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) marked 20 years in the fight
against HIV/AIDS. We commemorated this anniversary through
mission-driven events and activities.
In addition, we organized a series of community events on current
issues in HIV/AIDS to prepare for the work that lies ahead.

A Local and Global Response: Helping Children Affected by AIDS
Chicago Cultural Center, Claudia Cassidy Theater
6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Mark Kline, director of the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative,
will discuss the scope of the global HIV/AIDS crisis among children and
families, and describe how Chicagoans can help. Following his remarks,
Dr. Kline will be joined by a panel of local, HIV/AIDS medical experts
for a question-and-answer session.

The 15th annual black-tie gala will feature dinner, dancing, silent auction,

The Time Is Now: Confronting HIV/AIDS in the African-American Community
Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago

On June 21 local and national leaders discussed strategies to address the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on African Americans. The session was part of a series of events commemorating the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s 20th year of service to the community, and was also a public education program of Chicago Foundation for Women’s African American Leadership Council. Dance for Life

Presented by Chicago Dancers United, Dance for Life is the largest
performance-based HIV/AIDS fundraiser in the Midwest. The event features
Chicago's top dance companies and includes a pre-show reception and raffle.
Ticket prices range from $75 to $500.

AIDS Run & Walk Chicago
benefiting the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and local AIDS organizations

Produced by Chicago Special Events Management, this 5K Run & Walk
on Chicago's lakefront brings together thousands of runners and walkers
to show support for the fight against HIV/AIDS. Through the CommunityDirect
program, local HIV/AIDS service providers receive 50% of all money
they raise through pledges and registration fees. $20 early registration,
$25 event-day registration. Pledges highly encouraged.

prevention advocate and AFC Director of Grantmaking, Cynthia Tucker will

AFC's Annual Meeting brings together donors, community partners, local officials, staff, board, and advocates for an evening of reflection on the past year and looking ahead to new challenges. A new slate of Board Members and SPC members are elected, and Ada Mary Gugenheim, the Hon. Connie Howard, Chet Kelly, Elizabeth Lee, Alberto Senior, and Greg Warren were honored for the commitment and dedication to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

caterers, and chocolatiers at World of Chocolate, the AIDS Foundation
of Chicago's annual World AIDS Day event. A panel of local celebrity judges
will award top honors for the best chocolate creations. The event also
features an international holiday bazaar and a raffle. Tickets start at
